The City of Vidalia Fire Department has implemented the following initiatives to reduce the residential and commercial fire rates: Make yearly visits to the City of Vidalia Schools Pre-K through High School, distributing fire prevention literature, coloring books, hats, along with teaching fire prevention and personal life safety. We have a Senior Citizens smoke detector program in place and we provide classes in Fire Safety and Fire Extinguisher use to businesses, churches and civic organizations in the City of Vidalia.
- Provide pre-fire plans and inspections for businesses in the City of Vidalia.
- All fire hydrants are in the process of being painted, color coded and marked with blue reflector markers.
- Fire hydrants are on a scheduled inspection and maintenance plan.
- Maintain hazardous materials inventory for local businesses and industries.
- Participate in Emergency Management Drills.
- All employees are State of Georgia Certified Firefighters and participate in classroom and hands-on training under a certified fire instructor.
- Life Safety Education program for the youth of The City of Vidalia.
- Fire Fighters certified as Haz-Mat Technicians, Life Safety Educators, and Juvenile Fire Setters Intervention Specialist.
